Our Mission

At Dream Co. Theatre, our goal is to help improve the quality of life in the Durham community by producing and presenting world class shows, specializing in Theatre, and Music. We want to bring into focus the beauty and wonder of the human experience, as well as encourage our audiences to reflect, examine, question and respond to the world in which we live in. We wish to directly and indirectly educate our youth through our programming, and provide them with all they will need to become fully realized citizens. Finally, it is our hope that we can help create memories that illuminate our past, while inspiring our audiences to dream of a better and brighter future.

These are the opening lyrics to the timeless masterpiece Somewhere written by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim. I found my place 30 years ago, and it is in the theatre.

It is the ‘Somewhere’ where I come alive, and where I find purpose; where my world makes the most sense. DreamCo is the expression of my ‘Somewhere’, and my contribution to the world.  I have been blessed with a wondrous life in the theatre, and I feel it is my obligation to give back all that I have gained, learned, and loved with the community I share my world with. I have had the opportunity to work at a level I only dared to dream of, from the Stratford Festival, to the Toronto production of The Lion King, the Toronto production/National Tour of Mamma Mia, to London’s West End with The Lord Of the Rings. I’ve been able to work with Canada’s greatest talents, in the country’s greatest theatres, and have witnessed great artists mystify audiences night after night.  I myself have sat in dark houses, and have been transported as well as transformed by the magic of the theatre. I have done so much of what I felt was my purpose in life, I truly feel it is now time for me to begin a new chapter in my journey by sharing all that I love about theatre with those who share my little part of the world. It is my wish that through Dream Co, I can help lift your spirits, as well as inspire you to dream of a better, and brighter tomorrow.
